Character Name: Rei Ryugazaki

Blurb: Dorky academic whiz who was persuaded to leave his high school's track team to join the swim team-- nevermind the fact that he didn't even know how to swim at the beginning. He slowly learns to swim (but only one style-- the butterfly stroke) and becomes friends for life with everyone else on his team.

He might seem a little grumpy and a little tsun-tsun at first, but he quickly warms up and shows off his true level of dork and squishiness very easily.

AU Info: Very similar to canon, overall, except for the part about learning how to swim. Instead he's fairly new trainer who has been skipping class lately in favor of exploration and meeting all of the pokemon! Unfortunately, he's not Enlightened-- just a (far from) ordinary guy-- and he still can't swim.

Pre-Existing CR: Academics, classmates, people who loiter in the library, people who are sorta sporty or outdooorsy. He's a friendly, upstanding person for the most part and, even if your character doesn't visually recognize him, they're bound to recognize his voice.

He's...quite loud when he's passionate about something.

Looking for: Classmates, friends, teachers, fellow members of the track team, and I'd really love for someone to actually make him learn how to swim once and for all.

Potential Connections: Rei typically hangs out in the library or the park anymore. He's not really a member of anything yet, although I'd love for him to find a way to use his big brain in application with his newfound love for pokemon.

Other Info: Not....really? I'm hoping for castmates eventually to join the game because of how heavy the emphasis on teamwork is in canon. Also, for the possible name confusion with the Sailor Moon cast-- I'd really love an opportunity to play that up someday.

Dunno how academic Rei would consider ghosts, but I can't resist a chance to have Maya pick on a big dork.

If this were Canon!Rei, he'd say that ghosts don't exist-- please. But, seeing as this is an AU, I'm gonna say that Rei thinks ghost (type pokemon) are something that is a very valid subject to study!

Now, once we veer off of the concrete science of it there might be some questions and skepticism, but we can cover that as it happens. He is a total dork after all, and he needs more people to tease him!

I know Michiru once suggested a theory about the way ghosts live-- about them not really being 'ghosts'-- and didn't get a straight answer out of Maya, so that's another ramp to go on if you wanted to go along the lines of skepticism!

Good! Maya will adamantly deny it... but she's also a spirit channeller whose credibility's kind of in the water, so she has reason to.

Yeah, I know that feeling all too well anymore. Fortunately, backtags are always a thing in these games, and I've been wanting Rei to get more CR with some of the teenagers/young adults in this game. He is 15, so I definitely want some of those shenanigans with him.

Either is great in my book! Just be aware that Rei is a total dork and, if allowed, would be totally fabulous in his fashion senses.

...Kuranosuke is from jellyfish princess, yes? I haven't seen it myself, but i've an offline friend who is huge in that fandom, so i've heard a couple of things...
