First Round

The first round match-ups have been determined!

The rules for the tournament are the following: each trainer may use up to three Pokemon in a series of single battles. Pokemon may be switched in and out at any time. No Enlightened abilities or items may be used in these battles, including passive abilities. (Of course, you may cheat ICly, but this will be frowned upon and may lead to disqualification depending on the severity of the infraction.)

We need a winner from each pairing by 2/26, so please post the results of your match here whenever you've decided on a winner. If we have not received a decision by this time, we'll need to randomize a winner. If you are having difficulty getting ahold of your partner, let us know with a PM and we'll work something out. You may, of course, continue to backtag past this date; we don't actually expect that people will finish their matches so quickly ICly.

The IC post for the first round will go up tomorrow at midnight. There are 12 participants, so there will be 6 making it into the second round and 3 winners representing Union. These 3 winners will have a match against Team Evolution at the end. Since this event depends a lot upon player-player interactions, please do make an effort to keep the threads going!

Yang's got two Pokémon available to her for the tournament: a level 18 Eevee and a level 16 Misdreavus! I can go either way with victory or defeat.

And then I realized I haven't updated my level tracking this week...

Feliks will be bringing in 3: A level 20 Houndour, a level 19 Ralts (who'll gain 2 more levels before the end of the week, but I didn't want to evolve her before the tournament started), and a level 19 Mienfoo. With a full roster at a higher level, I think he does have the advantage in this one?

Yeah, that sounds likely! Yang couldn't quite pull that one out, so I think Feliks would win!

Sounds good to me. I'll go ahead and post that to the results threads, but we can keep plotting the details, if you'd like...

Maybe she takes one of his down, at least? The Mienfoo wouldn't be able to do much against Misdreavus, and it'd be hard for the Ralts to deal with, too.

Sure! That's cool with me.

Yeah, I could see that! She might get the Mienfoo down, but her Eevee goes down doing so, and the Misdreavus just can't hold out forever?

How about... If we start with Mienfoo vs. Eevee, Eevee could do some substantial damage before getting losing, leaving Mienfoo to get taken out by Misdreavus. He could send in Ralts, who might weaken Misdreavus a lot, but could also be taken down with a lucky hit or two (because ghost weakness), and then switch to Houndour and finish it?

That makes sense to me! And while Yang's competitive, she'll be a reasonably graceful loser and congratulate him and whatnot.

Alternatively, if Ralts got in a Confusion early on that got Misdreavus confused, or Misdreavus missed once or twice, that combined with her higher level and Feliks's Master of Training deal might pull out a win on Feliks's second Pokemon... I guess a closer match is more dramatic, though? What do you think?

And Feliks will be a pretty good winner, at least to her face. He may brag a little elsewhere.

Hmm. I'm good either way! It makes sense if Misdreavus gets confused and that does things in for him.

And yes, good. She won't mind if he brags and she finds out, too.

He probably will brag, then. He can kind of be a little brat.

Perhaps, then... What if Ralts started with Confusion, then Double Team while he was confused, and that bought enough time to win despite her getting hit a couple of times?
